Jury To Resume Deliberations Tuesday At 10 a.m. In Blancett v. City of Hollywood
Fort Lauderdale, Fla., October 20, 2025 — After a full day of deliberations, the jury in Blancett v. City of Hollywood will return on Tuesday, October 21, at 10 a.m. Eastern in Courtroom 15165 before Judge John B. Bowman. Deliberations are expected to continue into the afternoon. A verdict is possible later in the day subject to the court’s schedule.
The civil case arises from 2015 and 2016 encounters with Hollywood police. The plaintiff alleges sexual assault involving a baton and false arrest. Multiple medical experts testified that the plaintiff has permanent injuries and PTSD. The City of Hollywood denies the allegations.

“A jury is the voice of the community. I respect the process and will be available to speak,” said plaintiff Joshua Blancett.
An independent documentary filmmaker has filmed this week’s proceedings for an in-progress documentary. Select b-roll and trial clips will be available to credentialed media upon request.

Background
The lawsuit focuses on accountability and the absence of body camera footage from the incidents at issue. Blancett supports statewide body camera reform known as Josh’s Law, which would require cameras during public interactions, automatic uploads, and timely release of critical-incident footage with narrow written exceptions. Tampering with a body camera would be treated as evidence tampering.
Press availability
Interviews with Joshua Blancett will be accommodated on site outside courtroom on Tuesday.
